Successful businesses and nations have a high trust factor of each other.  Something we are rapidly loosing in this country.   We can gain it back if we are willing to look differently at each other and it can start very simply with the smile of a little boy.  Here is a recount from a distraught mom after election day.

You know.. I was having a really hard time this morning. But then I took Max out to run some errands. His friendly manner made probably 7 different people smile this morning. People that didn’t seem like they had much to smile about. I then had friendly exchanges with all those folks too.
I realize it’s more important now than ever for us to pull together. Help each other maintain the light and the joy that is this human experience.
I’m nervous for sure. But we all have jobs to do. I was reminded of mine this morning. I hope you all find solace in yourselves, your capacity to show up for others and in your community today.
I love you all dearly and I am remaining ever hopeful for a brighter future.

The panel of Monitor editors and reporters discussed topics including, what role trust plays in the media and politics and how the Monitor builds trust with its readers.

We will have a treasure hunt called “The God’s name game” in our Garden where the kids search for the seven synonyms for God. In our textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy she defines God in the glossary as:

God. The great I AM; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence.

So we place the names: Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love around the garden to be found by the seekers.  Come by and join the fun and win a prize .

Please join us this year at the Christian Science Society of Encinitas Reading Room on Halloween night for a walk through the “Garden of the great Spirit”

You are welcome to volunteer, also.

October the 31st can conjure up many images and emotions, but we take this opportunity to reach out to the community and to bless all who attend. Each year this event has had a very large attendance. Both new and repeat guests are delighted to be greeted by friendly faces and big smiles as they make their way through the decorated garden. There are inspirational signs about Spirit that are shared by costumed greeters. One such visitor approached to say,

“I really feel the Spirt here. I realize I don’t have to be afraid.” For many, it may be their first introduction to know God as Spirit, and for others it may just be a peaceful respite from what can be a frightening evening, but everyone that comes through expresses gratitude either by word or smile. Some stop to ask questions about Christian Science, some take literature, but most of all we share messages of spiritual understanding and also a little fun and a sweet treat. Come and experience it for yourself this Halloween, as our Reading Room lifts everyone to a higher view as we welcome all to the Garden of the Great Spirit once again.

  Also, put Sunday, November 24th on your calendar this year to come to the Reading Room to volunteer, participate, or just take in the vibe of the day at your local community Christian Science Reading Room as it opens up for the day during the Encinitas Street fair.  When you come, you will find that we are not just passive observers of the event, but instead an active focal point where we interact with the fair goers as they flood through our gate and into the garden to play the God’s name game.
Over the years we have become one of the fair’s most popular events with hundreds of kids and their parents in tow entering the Reading Room garden to play this game and have a day of Christian Science Sunday school learning the 7 synonyms of God as expressed in the Christian Science text book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.

Please come and be a part of this community event.  If for some reason you can not attend but would like to support our event,  you may do so by sponsoring 10 kids with their T-shirt prize that they receive after completing the game.  The cost for a sponsorship is $100 for 10 kid’s, or however more or less you want to sponsor as the Spirit moves you. Simple ideas, about God’s nature and about our nature as expressions of God, stir something new in our consciousness. They work in us in ways that change our lives and our health for the better.  But how do we find these healing ideas consistently?  We’ll look at the teachings of Christ Jesus, our best and most practical example. And I’ll share how this approach has transformed lives, including a mother and her infant daughter who each experienced healing. With ideas from God working on our behalf this way, we discover that we’re never truly alone.

About Melanie Wahlberg, CS

Two influences that Melanie will never forget were the Christian Science Sunday School and a mom who turned to prayer and encouraged her to do the same. These influences showed her something of the reliability of God and spiritual inspiration, and trusting this helped her find her way growing up. Significant healing experiences with relationship and food issues, and violence in the community, were also unforgettable. From this, Melanie got an idea of the many ways that Christian Science can transform lives.

After finishing a doctorate in mathematics, Melanie became a college professor and truly enjoyed teaching. She found that teaching was less about telling students something than facilitating the students’ discoveries of new concepts. There was nothing better than witnessing a reluctant student realize that a previously mystifying concept was actually within reach to anyone.

But the higher promise of Christian Science beckoned her to help people redeem and uplift their lives in a fuller way. When students came to her office for help with calculus, Melanie and her students often found themselves talking about the joy and excitement of growing spirituality.  After just two years at the college, Melanie resigned from her position and began accepting calls as a Christian Science practitioner. She wrote articles for the Christian Science periodicals, was a frequent guest on Sentinel radio, and began advertising her practice in The Christian Science Journal in 2004. She and her husband also started a family.

Melanie loves working from her home office in the Los Angeles area. She likes to see lives transformed by the healing ideas of Christian Science, where we ourselves are helped and, at the same time, find we can help others. Her life as a mom has a lot of the same focus. And whether the spiritual ideas apply to health issues, school, social lives, or sports, her three kids push her to “keep it real.”
