No Church service this Sunday, but we will be open for the Encinitas Street Fair April 29th and 30th, 2017

April 28th, 2017

The Reading Room will be open this weekend from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday and 11:30 AM to 4:00 PM on Sunday during the Encinitas Street Fair.  Parking is tight so it might be a good time to take the train!  Come by and say hi if you can.

We will have a scavenger hunt called “The God’s name game” during the fair this Saturday and Sunday in our Garden where the kids search for the seven synonyms for God.

IMG_1236  In our textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy she defines God in the glossary as:

God. The great I AM; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence.

So we place the names: Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love around the garden to be found by the seekers.  Come by and join the fun and when a prize .

This game is based on ideas taught in a Christian Science Sunday school.  For more information about a Sunday School near you click Here  .

Christian Science and the Marines – Video by Sally Lind CS

April 19th, 2017

Sally Lind is a Christian Science practitioner and she and others volunteer their time to teach Sunday school to the recruits at Camp Pendleton, CA. The beginning lessons are the Ten Commandments, the Sermon on the Mount and the Lord’s Prayer. This spiritual study of The Holy Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, gives these recruits a solid basis to practice their faith in God as the only Law giver in their training and for later times of deployment.

Easter 2017

April 15th, 2017

From The Daily Patriot regarding the Easter service at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Concord, N. H

May this glad Easter morn find the members of this dear church having a pure peace, a fresh joy, a clear vision of heaven here, heaven within us—and an awakened sense of the risen Christ. May long lines of light span the horizon of their hope, and brighten their faith with a dawn that knows no twilight, and no night. May those who discourse music to-day, sing, as the angels, Heaven’s symphonies that come to earth.

May the dear Sunday School children always be gathering Easter lilies of love, with happy hearts, and ripening goodness. To-day, may they find some sweet scents, and beautiful blossoms in Mother’s love, that she sends to them this glad morn in the flowers and the cross from Pleasant View, smiling on them. Tenderly, truly,

Mary Baker Eddy.
Pleasant View, Concord, N. H., March 30, 1902.

Come join us here at the Encinitas Reading Room for a 4:00 Easter service  We will have readings from our paster; the Bible, and Science and Health with key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.  During the service we will be enjoying the sweet harp sounds and solo by Naomi Alter.

Today’s solo at our 4:00 church service 3/18/2017

March 20th, 2017

If you were not there in person, here is your chance to hear Jen Hajj’s great solo at this afternoon’s Sunday service at our Encinitas Society Church service in the Reading Room.

Matt 14: 22-32
And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.  And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.  But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.  And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.  And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.  But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.  And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.  And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.  But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.  And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?  And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
